U Myo Myint Maung, Chargé d’Affaires a.i/ Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Embassy, participated in the “GGGI–GCF Joint Conference and Friends of GGGI” and luncheon reception held in Seoul on 21 May 2026. The event was jointly organized by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The conference opened with remarks by Ban Ki-moon, President and Chair of GGGI and former Secretary-General of the United Nations. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of international cooperation in advancing sustainable and climate-resilient development. GGGI is an international organization that promotes environmentally sustainable and low-carbon economic growth and currently includes more than 50 member countries.
GGGI’s membership spans countries across Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America, and Europe, including the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Viet Nam, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Australia. Myanmar is undergoing the accession process to become a member of the organization.
GCF was established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), serves as the world’s largest global climate financing mechanism supporting developing countries in responding to climate change.
Under the theme “Partnering for Ambitious Global Climate Action,” discussions focused on expanding green finance, enhancing international climate initiatives, and strengthening global partnerships. As host nation to both GGGI and GCF, the Republic of Korea continues to contribute to international climate cooperation by connecting governments, international organizations, green technology companies, financial institutions, public agencies, and research institutes.
The conference and luncheon were attended by representatives of GGGI and GCF, officials from member states, Korean government and private sector organizations, as well as ambassadors and diplomats from foreign embassies in Seoul.
