Myanmar Startups Participate in ASEAN-Korea Startup Week 2026
Seoul, 20 October 2026
Two Myanmar startups, Nipa Related Co., Ltd. and TharawonShwe Co., Ltd., participated in the opening ceremony of ASEAN-Korea Startup Week 2026, held on 20 October 2026 at OnDream Society in Seoul. Mr. Myo Myint Maung, Chargé d’Affaires a.i./Ambassador of the Embassy of Myanmar in Seoul, attended the ceremony together with the Economic Counsellor.
ASEAN-Korea Startup Week 2026 is organized by the ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC), in cooperation with ASEAN embassies in Seoul, to enhance the international competitiveness of ASEAN startups and create greater opportunities for business development and partnerships through participation in the Future Innovation Tech EXPO (FIX) 2026.
The opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Kim Jae-shin, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre; ambassadors, deputy chiefs of mission and economic counsellors from ASEAN embassies in Seoul; representatives of ASEAN startups; and other invited guests. H.E. Kim Jae-shin delivered the opening remarks, while H.E. Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, Ambassador of the Philippines to the Republic of Korea, delivered congratulatory remarks.
The ceremony was followed by a series of presentations and discussions on the Korean startup ecosystem. Professor Kim Young-Kyu of Korea University Business School spoke on “Venture Capital & Entrepreneurship in the Korean Startup,” highlighting venture capital investment and entrepreneurship in Korea. Mr. Lee Jung-yoon, Manager at the Gyeonggi Centre for Creative Economy and Innovation (GCCEI), presented “Korean Startup Support System through the K-Grand Startup Challenge (KGSC),” outlining the support system and opportunities available to startups in Korea. Mr. Ravi Shankar Pandit, Founder and CEO of KConnect Co., Ltd. and a winner of the 2025 K-Startup Grand Challenge, shared his experiences of establishing and developing a startup in Korea as a foreign founder under the topic “Foreign Founder’s Journey in Korea.”
The Myanmar participants were startup representatives from Nipa Related Co., Ltd., which specializes in nipa palm-based products, and TharawonShwe Co., Ltd., which focuses on producing traditional medicinal and agricultural products.”
Following the opening ceremony in Seoul, ASEAN-Korea Startup Week 2026 will continue in Daegu, Republic of Korea, from 21 to 23 October 2026. During the programme, ASEAN startup representatives will have opportunities to engage with Korean investors, accelerators and relevant business stakeholders; present their businesses at Demo Day; showcase their products and services at FIX 2026; expand their professional networks; and exchange knowledge and experiences. These activities are expected to contribute to strengthening business cooperation between ASEAN and Korea in the startup and MSME sectors.
The ASEAN-Korea Centre has organized ASEAN-Korea Startup Week annually since 2018 to promote cooperation between emerging businesses in ASEAN and Korea, facilitate the exchange of technology and innovation, and expand investment opportunities. Myanmar startups have also achieved notable success in previous editions of the programme. In 2020, Village Link Co., Ltd., which provides digital technology-based services for the agricultural sector, won first prize. In 2021, RecyGlo Co., Ltd., which provides waste management and data analytics services, won third prize. These consecutive achievements demonstrated the innovative capacity of Myanmar startups and their potential to access international markets, while creating opportunities to connect with investors and businesses in Korea.
Unlike previous editions, ASEAN-Korea Startup Week 2026 does not include a separate startup competition. Instead, participating startups will have the opportunity to introduce their businesses to Korean business stakeholders through the pitching programme. In this regard, the Economic Counsellor of the Embassy of Myanmar in Seoul provided recommendations to the Myanmar startup representatives on how to effectively present their businesses and make the most of the pitching opportunity.
The Embassy of Myanmar in Seoul continues to promote trade, investment and broader economic cooperation between Myanmar and the Republic of Korea. In this regard, the Embassy and the Economic Counsellor have been facilitating the participation of Myanmar startups in ASEAN-Korea Startup Week, helping them connect with Korea’s startup ecosystem, and supporting their efforts to access potential investors and business partners. The Embassy will continue to assist Myanmar startups in participating in future editions of the programme and in identifying opportunities for business cooperation in Korea.
